Payments & Refund Policy

Effective June 2026 · United States only

This policy explains how InviteWise handles gift contributions, host payouts, refunds, chargebacks, and disputes. It supplements (and is incorporated into) our Terms of Service. Capitalized terms have the meaning given in the Terms.

1. Role of InviteWise and Stripe

InviteWise is an event-coordination platform. We do not hold, transfer, or process funds. All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe") under Stripe's Services Agreement and Connected Account Agreement. InviteWise is not a money transmitter, bank, payment processor, or fiduciary. Each host operates as an independent connected account on Stripe and is the merchant of record for contributions received to their events.

2. Gift contributions are final

Once a contributor's card is successfully charged by Stripe, the contribution is final and credited to the host's Stripe balance, subject to the safety windows below. InviteWise does not issue unilateral refunds.

3. 14-day auto-refund safety cutoff

If a host receives one or more contributions but has not completed Stripe onboarding and linked a bank account within 14 days of the first contribution, InviteWise will automatically refund all contributions for that event in full to the original payment methods. This is a safety net to protect contributors; it is not a generally-available refund right.

Refunds initiated by the auto-cutoff typically appear on the original card within 5–10 business days, depending on the issuing bank.

4. Host-initiated refunds

Hosts may issue full or partial refunds to individual contributors from their event dashboard at any time before the funds have been paid out. Refunds are processed via Stripe and return to the contributor's original payment method.

Stripe processing fees are non-refundable. When a contribution is refunded, Stripe does not return the original transaction fee to the host, per Stripe's published policy. Any InviteWise platform fee charged on the contribution is refunded in full alongside the principal.

5. Cancelled or failed events

If a host cancels an event or fails to hold it, the host is solely responsible for refunding contributors. InviteWise will, on request, facilitate the refund workflow via the host's Stripe connected account, but cannot compel a refund and is not financially responsible for any unrefunded amount.

6. Disputes and chargebacks

If you believe a charge was made in error, please use this order:

  1. Contact the host directly through their event page.
  2. If unresolved, email us at support@invitewise.app and we will attempt to mediate.
  3. If still unresolved, you may dispute the charge with your card issuer.

Chargebacks are handled by Stripe, not by InviteWise. The host (as the merchant of record) is responsible for any chargeback fees Stripe assesses and for providing evidence to Stripe's dispute process. InviteWise may, but is not required to, debit a host's balance to satisfy chargeback liabilities.

7. Items not covered by this policy

The following are not refundable through InviteWise:

  • Affiliate-link purchases (e.g. products you buy from Amazon, Target, or any other retailer via a registry link). These are transactions between you and the retailer and are governed by the retailer's return policy.
  • Reward voucher claims issued from your InviteWise points balance. Vouchers are subject to the issuing partner's terms.
  • Third-party fees assessed by Stripe, card networks, or issuing banks (e.g. currency-conversion fees).

8. Platform fees

InviteWise may charge a service fee on certain contributions. The fee, if any, is disclosed to the contributor at checkout before payment. Service fees are refunded automatically whenever the underlying contribution is refunded.

9. How to request a refund

Contributors should first contact the event host. If the host is unresponsive within a reasonable time, email support@invitewise.app with the event name, contributor email, date of charge, and amount. Refund-related privacy requests can be managed via our data page at /privacy-choices.

10. US-only service · Governing law

InviteWise is offered exclusively to US residents 18 years of age or older. This policy is governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to payments, refunds, or chargebacks is subject to the mandatory binding individual arbitration and class-action waiver set forth in our Terms of Service.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app and by email where appropriate. Continued use of InviteWise after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Post-Event Media Deletion Warning

Please note that InviteWise enforces a strict privacy data retention window. All media assets, party photos, and shared images uploaded to an event dashboard are automatically and permanently purged from our system 7 days after the event concludes. Cash ledger details, transaction receipts, and payout histories are preserved for legal and tax purposes, but the visual photo galleries are completely non-recoverable after this 7-day period.
